Dwr Cymru Penallt Project 2026/7

Welsh Water will be upgrading the water pipes in Penallt during 2026/7 and are investing over £8 million to upgrade more than 13km of water pipes in the village.
Some of our pipes are over 100 years old and nearing the end of their operational life.
This investment will improve the drinking water network and reduce the risk of leaks and supply interruptions.
The aim is to replace all cast iron pipes and to flush through all others. Existing cast iron pipes are shown in red on the map. They mostly follow roads but sometimes cut across between roads.
Note that the plastic pipes laid in 2017 in the Pentwyn area should be good for another few decades.

Initial Work - September 2026
Some 29 test holes will be dug at selected points around the village in order to inspect the existing original pipework.
Their approximate locations are shown on the map.
Road diversions will be set up whilst the work is going on which should be completed before the end of September.
The results of the inspections will govern the planning of the main work which is due to start in January although some work may start in December.
Dwr Cymru advice on Water Supply During the Work
Most of the time, there will be no interruption to the water supply.
Water may occasionally appear darker than usual. This is normal during such work and will clear if you run your kitchen cold tap.

When and Where
Work will be carried out with M Group and their supply chain.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 5:30pm. Some work may occur outside these hours or on weekends.
Main work starts: December 2026
Expected completion: December 2027
Preparatory work begins: 17th August 2026
Some roadworks may require traffic management, including road closures.
