New permissive path through GWT yard
Gwent Wildlife Trust closed access to their fields through the GWT yard (next to The Bush) last June, citing safety concerns caused by movement of machinery and vehicles in the yard. Details of this are here.
A public consultation followed which resulted in the decision to divert the old access route to the far side of the yard via a new permissive path. This involved taking down and rebuilding the end of the village green boundary wall, clearing brambles to create the new path, installing two new gates (at A and B on the map) and erecting a new post and rail fence to bound one side of the path.
The old route used to come in via point C, thence through B and the orchard into the GWT fields, whilst the new permissible route reaches B from A, in the lane going down to Pentwyn Barn.
Work on the wall started some weeks ago whilst the remaining tasks were completed on April 1st and 2nd by a teams from Joe Ryder and GWT and from the Penallt Footpath Group, the latter led by Tom Arnold of MonLife. Funding for materials etc came from GWT and MonLife with welcome assistance from TUCC.
The new path is now open.
