Dick Hartley party

Friends of Dick Hartley, one-time owner of Moorcroft and a great friend of the village and Pelham Hall in particular, gathered to celebrate his 90th birthday on Saturday 14th October 2023. He was welcomed to the party by Sian Redmond who reminded those present of just a few of Dick’s attributes - generosity in abundance, one of the nicest men you could hope to meet and much besides. Not only this, but he was instrumental in getting the present Hall re-built some 30 years ago, together with Bryn Boycott and Pat Moriarty who were also present. And again, much more besides.

It was a great pity that his wife Virginia was not well enough to hear this, especially as her own contributions to Pelham Hall have been immense, not least of which being her many years as a Trustee keeping a watchful eye on the Hall’s purse strings.

The advance preparation for the party was most impressive and a large number of friends, including members of the Hall’s Events Committee did sterling work beforehand. They even managed to have a barrel of Butty Bach on tap which enabled those watching the Wales defeat by Argentina (being showed by kind permission of Dick) to drown their sorrows.

One highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of a plaque in celebration of the Hartleys’ influence on the Hall.
