New Ceiling Boss for the Old Church
Closing date extended until the end of November
Since medieval times there has been a tradition of putting ceiling bosses in the Old Church, Penallt. These depict a variety of subjects and in recent times more have been added to commemorate the Millennium, the new church organ and space travel. They are well worth a look and are described in detail here.
A competition is being launched to design two new bosses, one for the Covid pandemic and one for the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The boss may be rectangular, circular or a shield and the design should be simple, coloured and suitable to be carved on a wooden plaque.
The competition is open to all and the entries will be displayed in the Pelham Hall before being judged.
Entry forms which contain more information are available from Sarah Haeffner or Lyn Harper, or may be downloaded from here. Designs should be submitted to either of them by 30th November. These will then be displayed in Pelham Hall through November with the winners announced on December 21st at the Pelham Hall.
There will be a prize of £50 for each of the 2 winning entries.
