New Chapter for The Bush

When Rowley Webb and partner Jess were running Abergavenny’s Nosh Deli and catering at Usk Golf Club, they were building up experience to take on a bigger challenge, that of running a pub, ideally by the sea or in an iconic rural location.

Some three years later, a friend mentioned that The Bush in Penallt was “available”. They came to look, negotiated with Chris and Bron, and now here they are with their three children, tenants for 5 years but hoping to be more permanent in time.

The last few months have seen much hard work in getting the building ready. Although work still continues, the main changes are ready. The bar returns to its original position in the room on the right as you enter. There is no longer any sign of the previous bar in the room on the left and the snug at the back has gone too. It remains as a lounge, tastefully hung with paintings from a local artist.

Jess and Rowley have great plans for the future and not-so-future too. Pub food is on the menu for most days and there will be a focus on fine dining on Saturdays. They are thinking of a small shop too and are keen to find out what sort of demand there might be from locals. And they hope to offer B&B again in due course.

The Bush will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and opens on other days as follows:

Wednesday 6pm - 11pm
Thursday 6pm - 11pm
Friday 12pm - 3pm
6pm - 11pm
Saturday 9am - 10.30am breakfast
12pm - 3pm lunch
6pm - 11pm dinner
Sunday 12pm - 6pm

Past History
There have been many website articles about The Bush over the years (well, since about 2011!) and a collection of them can be viewed at The Bush Inn History.
