Date and Time: 09 Jan 2025, 6:30pm
- Chaired by: Simon Angell
- Attendees: 14 residents, Councillors Richard John and Jayne McKenna
A summary of the meeting notes is given below.
Primary Risks Identified:
- Brush Fire: Potential during extreme drought; highest risk due to unpredictability and speed.
- Flooding: Runoff from agricultural land causing extreme flooding in certain areas, impacting drainage and culverts.
- Storm Damage: High winds causing fallen trees, blocking roads and affecting electricity and broadband.
- Prolonged Power Cuts: Regular short power outages, with potential for longer cuts during major storms.
- Water Supply Interruption: Dependency on Monmouth pumping station, which has failed previously due to flooding.
CEP Goals:
- Build on the community spirit from November 2024's heavy rain.
- Define risks, probabilities and impacts.
- Implement mitigation actions and prepare resources.
- Establish actions for when risks materialise, including communication and support strategies.
Key Points:
- Communication is vital; alternative methods to social media are necessary.
- Success relies on community engagement and quick response to emergencies.
Next Steps:
- Community members affected by identified risks should register their information.
- Volunteers are needed to serve as wardens and assist in planning the CEP.
- Feedback and offers of assistance can be sent to Simon Angell at simon.angell@hotmail.co.uk.
The focus is on community collaboration and preparedness to swiftly address emergencies.
