Despite the mini-heatwave of 18th to 20th, with its record 31.2°C on the 19th, July 2016 was just a little cooler than average. It was, however, much drier than average too. The total rainfall of 17.4 mm was half the Ross-on-Wye* average for July of 34.8 mm, and there were only seven days on which measurable rain fell. July 2016 was the fourth driest month in Penallt since records began in April 2011.

The average maximum temperature of 21.6 °C was 0.4 °C below the Ross average for July of 22.0 °C, and there were only three days when the temperature exceeded 25 °C.
