Fri 22nd March: Films on The Narth - Widows

(2018) 129 mins

Director: Steve McQueen
Writers: Gillian Flynn, Steve McQueen

Adapted by Gillian Flynn (author of Gone Girl) from Linda La Plante's novel and directed by Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave), this ‘heist’ movie is a far cry from Oceans 11.

A group of widows, left in debt by their criminal husbands, conspire to solve their problems on their own terms. Full of plot twists and turns, this is a hard hitting action film set in contemporary Chicago, with Viola Davis in the lead role.

The Guardian: "Intelligent, engrossing and fiercely emotional (without resort to sentimentality), Widows is a sinewy treat that seamlessly intertwines close-up character studies, big-picture politics and audaciously reimagined heist-movie riffs." (5 stars)

The Telegraph: "Steve McQueen outguns Scorsese with a swaggering, supercharged crime epic." (5 stars)

The Sunday Times: "Widows, Steve McQueen’s whip-smart heist movie, delivers the finest film making of the year." (5 stars)
