A year ago an ex British service man and cabaret artist, Frankie Martin, began a year long tour in aid of British service men -The Great British Pub Tour, Frankie's aim was to play 366 consecutive venues in 366 days with all money raised going to the Help for Heroes charity (see original notice below).
Andy and Jackie of The Inn at Penallt said "at the back end of last year we are asked, with a few days notice, to step in as a venue as, sadly, the original pub booked had been forced to close. Despite little chance to advertise the village turned out in strength, kept the show on the road and raised money for a fantastic cause.
Jackie and I have just had an e mail from Frankie saying that he completed his tour as scheduled, in fact he added in one final spot making it 367 nights and raised a total of £141, 402.00 for Help for Heroes, which is fantastic."
Original notice of October 2010:-
THE GREAT BRITISH PUB TOUR – 366 shows in 366 pubs in 366 towns in 366 days!
The Help For Heroes "Great British Pub Tour" will feature at The Inn on Tuesday 26th October, with music starting at 8.30pm.
The Inn at Penallt has been asked by the tour organisers to step in at the last moment to ensure continuity of the record attempt, i.e. one show every night for a year and a day, as the booked venue for next Tuesday has been forced to close. There will be no charge for the evening although the Inn will organise a collection of some sort with all money going to the charity.
The tour has already been featured on BBC Radio 2, Smooth Radio, Real Radio,Tyne Tees TV, STV and many local and regional radio stations and news print media.
When asked what they missed most while on tour, 8 out of 10 Service personnel answered… the pub!
Throughout 2010 and into 2011, lounge/swing artiste Frankie Martin will undertake a record breaking tour of the UK mainland, playing at least one show a day, every day, for a year and a day.
The “Great British Pub Tour" commenced in Nocton Lincolnshire on Monday 19th April 2010, on Frankie's 50th birthday and will end 366 shows and 366 days later. To a singer that is equivalent to running a half marathon everyday for a whole year.
Born into a forces family this brat packer intends to raise awareness of the continuing sacrifices made by British Armed Forces personnel worldwide while entertaining with the unforgettable songs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Michael Buble and more. Money raised from this musical extravaganza will be donated to H4H.
