This car has just entered its 100th Year having been manufactured in Findlay Ohio USA back in 1915. It has however spent almost half its life in South Wales and is now resident in Monmouthshire. It can be seen at the forthcoming Classic car and bike show in Penallt on Sunday 10th August.
The owner Dr Alan Sutton acquired the car back in the seventies and at that time it was fit only for the scrap heap. It has been lovingly restored over the years by Alan and is now the sole survivor of this particular model.
It is a Grant Model TT of 2.9 litres complete with original wooden wheels (hickory) and 6 cylinders. It sold new in 1915 for $725 roughly equivalent to £180. Fewer than 300 of these cars were made by the Grant company of Ohio, a small family firm. The company itself made a number of different model cars from 1914 to 1922 when they ceased production due to the post war recession in the USA
Along with the Grant there will be many other interesting classic cars and motorbikes at the show, which is held on the cricket field in Penallt. Admission to the show is £1 for adults and light refreshments and a bar will be available. Classic vehicle owners are invited to bring their vehicles along and there is no pre booking required. The show runs from about 1 pm onwards.
