After taking over as Treasurer earlier this year, I have also been asked to take care of keeping the bar stocked. You may have noticed a few beers that are now priced at £3/bottle. This is to give more choice and if this trial goes well I will maintain a varied stock.
I will still be buying Rev. James, Doombar, Spitfire, SA Brains Gold etc. and I expect these will remain the most popular choice with the price remaining at £2.50/bottle (unless wholesale prices increase).
There have also been a number of comments about the quality of the small bottles of wine. I agree with these views and have been trying to source wine for a discerning palate. The problems I have found are cost, sufficient choice and stock. I will continue to source the better quality wines from supermarkets when they are on special offer and these will be sold at £3/187ml bottle.
Jan has found a wine merchant that supplies 187ml bottles of more up market wines. I have bought a selection of these as a trial. The price is £3.50/bottle.
I am also thinking of stocking just the following wine types:-
White – Prosecco, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio
Red – Merlot, Rioja, Malbec and Shiraz
Please let me know or any of our volunteer bar staff what you think of these trials.
