Penallt broadband?

A small group of villagers, supported by the Pelham Hall Committee, has been considering the poor provision of broadband in the village and is investigating what might be done.

Although many homes in Penallt can, and do, enjoy (?) “broadband” provision, most of them have speeds which are officially classified as “slow” (below 2 Mbps) whilst others are beyond the range of any sort of broadband at all.

This has a serious effect on those who run businesses from home as well as those who seek leisure use, etc from the internet – for example, the BBC advises a connection speed of 2 Mbps to use the BBC iPlayer (or 3.5 Mbps for its high definition output).

The suggestion is that, if the village acts collectively over this issue, we may be able to find a solution, just as other villages up and done the UK have done in the past couple of years. But it is certain that no solution will be forthcoming if there is little or no demand.

So the purpose of this page is to find out what demand there might be, by asking every Penallt household to complete the survey here, whether or not the topic is of interest!

Alternatively, you could complete the paper survey recently distributed to all households (or download the survey from here if necessary) and follow the instructions therein.

We would be very grateful if all could do so. The survey was due to close on December 19th, but it will remain open until further notice to allow more to register.
