Become a Friend of Art in Penallt

Art in Penallt is a voluntary organisation founded in 2010 to run an annual art festival in the Welsh hillside village of Penallt. It was set up by a local group of artists and enthusiasts who love art and skilled craftsmanship and wanted to bring quality contemporary works and art experiences to the rural community.

Each year we plan an art festival to which notable local artists and makers are invited. Each year we have seen growing attendance and demand for display space. For the past 5 years we have used the beautiful, restored Arts and Crafts church, Capel Pentwyn, as our main gallery and large marquees on the adjacent Babington Meadow, for stalls and demonstrations. Curating an exhibition of diverse and eclectic artworks and artefacts is not an easy task and several months’ work goes into this. We collaborate with other local organisations such as Humble by Nature and Pelham Hall both to help us with fundraising and, in diverse ways, to add value to the event. Working with local schools and displaying students’ artwork at a big event as part of the festival also helps bring in young talent and younger visitors.

Sales of artwork at the exhibition are currently our main source of income but we have also benefited from small local grants. We organise occasional fund-raising events each year and these help to balance the books and add another dimension to community involvement.

There is always much more we want to do and the Friends network is one very important way of facilitating this. The past five years has proved that there is popular demand for this festival both from artists and makers and from the public. Our mantra is quality, innovation and excellence.

Membership of Friends of Art in Penallt gives free entry to immediate family to the exhibition each year on presentation of the Friends membership card. Also, invitations to our fund raising events which recently have included a Burns Night supper and a Race Night - in appropriate dress, of course. Friends will also know that their generosity will help to ensure the continuation of the festival as a keynote event in the life of the village.
