Art in Penallt - celebration of art and creativity

ART IN PENALLT – Four Ways to Love Art

Friday September 30th – Sunday October 2nd 2011

Art in Penallt sculptureThe tiny hilltop village of Penallt is hosting a major art event in the Autumn not only to celebrate the work of leading local artists and photographers but also to create an event with a difference. This is not just about local artists showcasing their latest work; it is also about enthusing and exciting people of all ages in the creative process. The proceeds will go to charities and also to sustain this type of event in future years. Penallt is no stranger to the arts and people from George Bernard Shaw to Robert Plant have lived and worked here. There are three linked events in the programme.

Dinner and lecture -  7 pm - Friday 30th September – The Inn at Penallt NP25 4SE

The event will be opened on the Friday evening with a dinner in the recently refurbished Inn at Penallt that will be followed by a talk by renowned local artist, Richard Wills. Richard will talk about his recently commissioned work featuring combat troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and also his continuing fascination with the works of Dylan Thomas. Tickets for this event will be limited and will be on sale at the Inn at Penallt from Alastair Robertson (01600 715781)

Fine art exhibition – 10am – 4.30pm Sat 1st  & Sun 2nd October – Capel Pentwyn, Penallt NP25 4SE

The beautifully converted Capel Pentwyn in the centre of Penallt will be transformed into an art gallery for two days.  There will be a stunning exhibition of work for sale by well-established local and national artists and makers, curated by Rosemary Williams.

Meet the artists – 5pm – 6pm Sat 1st  October – Capel Pentwyn, Penallt NP25 4SE

An opportunity to meet and talk with the exhibiting artists over a glass of wine (or fruit juice) in the beautiful Capel Pentwyn. Free entry.

Art Boot sale – 10am- 4.30pm Sunday 2nd October – Babington Meadow, Penallt NP25 4SE

There has never been an art boot sale in this part of the world before. This should be fun. Babington Meadow, alongside Capel Pentwyn, is a stunning setting for an ‘Art in the Park’ event. Exhibitors will need to raid the attic to find those (possibly) priceless paintings and objêts d’art to put on display in a real car-boot style setting.

Pitches for stalls must be booked in advance as space is limited. A marquee will also be available on the site for those worried about the weather. For general enquiries and booking pitches contact Alastair Robertson (01600 715781)

The proceeds from the event will go to Babington Meadow (Charity No: 102952) and Cancer Research Wales (Charity No: 248767.)
