Claire Lovell

I am a Welsh Painter, living in Usk. My interest in art has been lifelong but while I started art college a LONG time ago, I wasn’t able to continue – thus I am largely self taught.

I have no wordy explanation for my work. My inspiration comes from a love of the natural world and living things, whether that be the sea or land, wildlife and people moving about, or the simplest everyday objects we find in our homes; a bowl of lemons, a vase of flowers or a quirky looking jug. Tonal variations, a strong colour set against another otherwise neutral one – breathing life into it, shapes and subtle tones, excite me.

On a deeper and perhaps more important level to me, my work comes from a deep rooted and life long frustration to express a feeling inside that is too inexplicable for me to communicate in words. It is a combination of the joy and sadness that accompanies my wonder of life – the exciting, yet tragic nature of it all.

My work continues to evolve but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy what I have to share with you here.
